Hachiko: A Dog’s Story

 

Hachiko was brought to Tokyo in 1924 by his owner, a college professor named Hidesamuro Ueno. Each day, when Ueno left for work, Hachiko would stand by the door to watch him go. When the professor came home at 4 o’clock, Hachiko would go to the Shibuya Station to meet him.

Though this simple act alone shows a tremendous amount of loyalty, that’s not the end of it: The following year, Ueno died of a stroke while at the university. Hachiko didn’t realize that he was gone, and so the dog returned to the train station every single day to await his master. He became such a familiar presence there, in fact, that the station master set out food for the dog and gave him a bed in the station. Even so, Hachiko never shifted loyalties –every day at 4 o’clock, he hopefully waited by the tracks as the train pulled in, searching for his best friend’s face among the people getting off.
Hachiko’s love for his master impressed many people who passed through the station, including one of Ueno’s former students, who became fascinated by the Akita breed after seeing Hachiko. He discovered that there were only 30 Akitas living in Japan, and began to write articles about Hachiko and his remarkable breed, turning the world’s most loyal dog into a household name, and creating a resurgence in popularity for the Akita.

Hachiko died in 1935, after 10 long years of waiting for his master. But the dog would not be forgotten –a year before his death, Shibuya Station installed a bronze statue of the aging dog, to honor its mascot. Though the statue was melted down during World War II, a new version was created in 1948 by the son of the original artist. Go to the station now, and you’ll be able to see the bronze statue of Hachiko – still waiting, as ever, for his master to come home.

1. Kucing menyukai hal2 yang berbau hijau seperti rumput. Makan rumput bukan sesuatu yang harus dikhawatirkan pada kucing. Mereka biasanya makan rumput untuk menghilangkan rasa sakit perut, dan melegakan peradangan pada tenggorokannya. 

2. Mereka tidak suka rasa yang manis. Maka masuk akal jika kucing tidak suka permen (beda dengan anjing).  

3. Mereka mempunyai mata ketiga yang disebut "Haw", dan hanya terlihat pada saat mereka dalam kondisi yang tidak baik/sehat.

4. Mereka mempunyai indera yang baik dalam penciuman. Inilah alasan kenapa kucing tidak suka ditaruh di box yang kotor, mereka juga mempunyai indera pendengaran yang baik.

6. Mereka menggangap daerah yang dikelilingi oleh gas amonia sebagai tempat terlarang, maka dari itu tidak dianjurkan untuk menggunakan amonia untuk menghilangkan bau kencing si kucing. 

7. Anak kucing yang baru lahir mepunyai warna mata yang biru, dan akan berubah setelah mereka beranjak dewasa. 

8. Kucing tahu perubahan mood pada manusia, dan ini akan berefek pada si kucing.  

9. Mereka menunjukan kepatuhan terhadap tuannya dengan mendengkurkan suara dan berguling pada punggungnya. 

10. Normal suhu tubuh kucing adalah 102 Fahrenheit atau 38.8°C.  

11. 'Maine Coon' adalah jenis kucing terbesar dan 'Singapura cat' adalah jenis yang terkecil.

Sumpah Pemuda

Hari ini, 28 Oktober 2010. Tau kan hari apa? Jangan ngaku pemuda Indonesia kalo ga tau hari ini hari apa. Yak, hari ini hari peringatan Sumpah Pemuda.  

Hari ini, saya sebagai seorang pemuda mencoba menulis sebuah artikel tentang sumpah pemuda, enjoy!

Teks Soempah Pemoeda dibacakan pada waktu Kongres Pemoeda yang diadakan di
Waltervreden (sekarang Jakarta) pada tanggal 27 - 28 Oktober 1928 1928.

Sumpah Pemuda merupakan bukti otentik bahwa pada tanggal 28 oktober 1928 Bangsa Indonesia dilahirkan, oleh karena itu seharusnya seluruh rakyat Indonesia memperingati momentum 28 oktober sebagai hari lahirnya bangsa Indonesia, proses kelahiran Bangsa Indonesia ini merupakan buah dari perjuangan rakyat yang selama ratusan tahun tertindas dibawah kekuasaan kaum kolonialis pada saat itu, kondisi ketertindasan inilah yang kemudia mendorong para pemuda pada saat itu untuk membulatkan tekad demi Mengangkat Harkat dan Martabat Hidup Orang Indonesia Asli, tekad inilah yang menjadi komitmen perjuangan rakyat Indonesia hingga berhasil mencapai kemerdekaannya 17 tahun kemudian yaitu pada 17 Agustus 1945.

Rumusan Sumpah Pemuda ditulis Moehammad Yamin pada sebuah kertas ketika Mr. Sunario, sebagai utusan kepanduan tengah berpidato pada sesi terakhir kongres. Sumpah tersebut awalnya dibacakan oleh Soegondo dan kemudian dijelaskan panjang-lebar oleh Yamin.

ALTERNATIVES TO PETROLEUM

1. SOLAR CELLS

Solar cells are manufactured primarily in Japan, Germany, USA, and China, though numerous other nations have or are acquiring significant solar cell production capacity.

While technologies are constantly evolving toward higher efficiencies, the most effective cells for low cost electrical production are not necessarily those with the highest efficiency, but those with a balance between low-cost production and efficiency high enough to minimize area-related balance of systems cost.

2. GEOTHERMAL POWER

Geothermal power is energy generated by heat stored beneath the Earth's surface or the collection of absorbed heat in the atmosphere and oceans. The largest group of geothermal power plants in the world is located in California. As of 2007, geothermal power supplies less than 1% of the world's energy.

3, MARINE ENERGY

The development of the first subsea commercial wave farm by a Scottish company took another important step to develop and commercialise AWS’ Archimedes Wave Swing, one of the few proven technologies worldwide for generating clean, renewable electricity from the ocean’s waves. Scotland as a world leader in marine energy.

4. HYDRO ELECTRIC POWER

About 20 per cent of the world’s electricity is generated through the use of water. Today’s hydro electric power station has a simpler design than a conventional coal-fired station.

Basically, the hydro-electric plant consists of a water turbine which converts the energy from flowing water into mechanical energy. Then, An electric generator converts this mechanical energy into electrical energy.

5. NUCLEAR POWER

Nuclear power is any nuclear technology designed to extract usable energy from atomic nuclei via controlled nuclear reactions. All current methods involve heating a working fluid such as water, which is then converted

into mechanical works for the purpose of generating electricity or propulsion. Today, more than 15% of the world's electricity comes from nuclear power, over 150 nuclear-powered naval vessels have been built, and a few radioisotope power have been produced.
